Immerse Yourself in Maritime History
September 12, 2023
This unique museum is more than just an artifact repository; it serves as a captivating journey into the history of fishing, gastronomic culture, and regional traditions of Spain.
The Palamós Fishing Museum stands out as the sole permanent exhibition of its kind in the Mediterranean, narrating the tale of marine fisheries—past, present, and future.
Situated within an ancient tinglado, a historic building originally used as a railway station outbuilding (shed), the Fishing Museum is nestled in the heart of the Palomós seaport. These tinglados, found throughout Catalonia’s seaports and marinas, stand as preserved cultural heritage.
Within the museum’s expansive grounds, alongside permanent historical and documentary exhibitions, visitors can explore floating fishing boats and vessels, participate in gastronomic masterclasses, tasting workshops and even attend a live fish auction. This immersive experience unveils the entire journey of fish and seafood from the sea to the plate, providing insights into unique facts, the determinants of seafood pricing, and the preparation of traditional dishes.
Notably, the Palomós Fishing Museum doubles as a scientific base of the Department of Marine Research at the University of Girona.
